Spray paint workshop with Robson Green and Kieran Reilly

I recently had the opportunity to lead a workshop for Robson Green's "Weekend Escapes" on BBC, and I wanted to share a bit about the experience.

A Beautiful Setting

The workshop took place in a lovely woodland area, creating a tranquil atmosphere perfect for creativity. https://hesleysidehuts.co.uk/

With the soothing sounds of nature around us, I brought along a selection of materials, including 90 colors of spray paint and aluminum panels for our projects.

The Easels I Built

I was eager to showcase some easels I had crafted from scaffold boards. Designed to be sturdy and foldable, they held up well throughout the session, even with a gentle breeze. I wanted to ensure they were functional and wouldn’t topple over while we worked.

The Workshop Experience

With just two participants—Robson Green and Olympic BMXer Kieran Reilly—the setting felt intimate and focused. We started with a brief introduction, and I aimed to guide them through the basics of spray painting, focusing on creating abstract art inspired by our beautiful surroundings.

I encouraged them to experiment with layering colors and textures. It was rewarding to witness their enthusiasm and creativity as they engaged with the materials.

Meeting Robson Green and Kieran Reilly

Having Robson and Kieran in the workshop was a highlight. Robson was friendly and genuinely interested in the creative process, diving right into the painting. Kieran brought his own unique energy, and hearing about his journey as an Olympic athlete added an inspiring layer to our day.

The Final Results

By the end of our time together, both Robson and Kieran had created some impressive abstract paintings. It was fulfilling to see them grow in confidence and skill as they embraced the creative process.

Final Thoughts

Reflecting on the workshop, it was a unique and meaningful experience. Not only did we produce some great art, but we also shared moments of connection and inspiration.

As I packed up the materials and cleaned the space, I felt grateful for the chance to work with such talented individuals. I look forward to more opportunities like this in the future, where art can foster connection and creativity in such a positive way.

I was so busy with the teaching and the filming that I didn’t get any photos. You'll have to wait until it comes out on iPlayer in the spring of 2025 to see how the paintings turned out.
